Top tips from WIJ’s ‘To blog or not to blog’ seminar

I just found an interesting article on blogging, so I thought I’d share it: Top tips from WIJ’s ‘To blog or not to blog’ seminar.

Lots of useful tips in there, but my favourites are:

1) Blogs are like journalism – so target your audience.

This is spot-on. The best bloggers find a niche audience/subject and stick to it. Food blogger Marcus Bawdon, for example, has made a name for himself writing about barbecued and smoked food.

2) Blogging is 10% creativity and 90% hard work.

A blog won’t grow if you don’t tell people it exists, so broadcast it across social media channels and engage with your audience.

3) Don’t mind the trolls, unless they are holding a gun to your head!

I haven’t been a victim of any serious trolling, but the thing to remember is that trolls (like bullies) enjoy provoking a reaction – don’t take the bait.
